Invitations & The Odd Catering Experience

My, my! We scored at Michaels! Being the coupon sleuth that I am, I found a 50% off coupon for Michaels. So that kind made me hell bent on getting my invitations there, because I knew it would be a good quality. So we get there, and- dum, dum, dum!! They were already on sale, but not in a good way. The original price was 39.99 and it was on sale for 29.99. Obviously the coupon off the original price is better. My long history of being a retail employee prepared me. The coupon said that I can't use it on sale items. But I knew that they could price override it to the original price, thus allowing me to get the kit for 20 bucks! The cashier girl told me that they couldn't do that. Did I take no for an answer? "Can I speak with your manager please?" Success! Ladies (and gents)- do not be afraid to speak with the manager. Generally they want customers happy and most are willing to work it out. But- so far I only have 3 kits. I need 3 more, and I can't go back to the same store (my sister has helped me get two of them). So anyway, we have decided on our colors - hooray! - red and gold it shall be. Red is very important in chinese culture (my FI is Chinese) for luck and for the other color, originally we were going to white, then it was black, but gold is what we both want. I really love how it pops off the red.

So, our odd catering experience you ask? Yeah..... it was weird. My father showed me the wedding section of a certain newspaper and there was a nice looking ad there. I called them up and made an appointment. It was in Cambria Heights, not exactly accessible. We planned to take the LIRR, but silly me- I didn't check their schedule and the next train was in one hour. Uh oh. The moment I found out, it was almost the time of our appointment. We had made it halfway there, so we just jumped in a cab. Going somewhere you are unfamiliar with is such a weird feeling. Not good. So wishing we had a car at that point. So, we get dropped off, and we proceed to walk towards this restaraunt. We go in and it small, just a buffet that they scoop out, but it smelled good. I smiled at the girl behind the counter and said, hi! I'm here for my appointment. She blankly looked at me, annoyed at my presence. She shrugged her shoulders and pointed to another girl. Hi! I said again- another blank look, but at least after explaining, this girl got what I was saying. We get taken back outside and a few stores down to their other store front. We are about 30 mins late at this point, but may I bring attention to the fact that they did not pick up their phones until I was 10 mins away. So, the gates are down, but the door opens. A woman with a weak, and annoyed smile greets us. I'm already kind of like- hello!! wedding = happy!! But whatever- the place is freezing!! When we sat down, an awkward silence fell. As if she expected us to start the conversation. Long story short- the whole meeting was lame. She barely had anything prepared for us (when I asked for prices, she had to fetch the pricing sheet) and was barely enthusiastic. Even when I apologized for being late and explaining we lived really far away, she said nothing. They looked like they had great potential, but her barely there attitude was less than appealing. And this was apparently a place that had enough money for a large newspaper advertisement. I give them a D rating, purely because it barely felt like she cared or wanted our money. I've found a nice looking place that also has food for CHEAP!!, so we'll be going there to check it out next week. :)
